Outline of the research

We will promote clinical research aimed to create new application of ethical Kampo formulation and that aimed to develop botanical drug product. Thus, we will promote translational research in collaboration with Center for Clinical Research in University Hospital based on the seeds gained from basic research at Institute of Natural Medicine. In addition, we will feed back questions in the clinical practice to Institute of Natural Medicine and provide a bridge to reverse translational research.

Research Projects

  1. Effect of Hachimijiogan on cognitive function in Alzheimer’s disease patients.
  2. Effect of Ryokeijutsukanto on Meniere’s disease.
  3. Exploratory study of Japanese traditional(Kampo)medicine for joint pain caused by endocrine therapy after breast cancer surgery
  4. Combination therapy of immune checkpoint inhibitors and juzentaihoto for lung cancer (pilot study)
In the comparison of the metabolomics data for which more significant change from baseline was seen in the HJG group than in the control group at each testing point (day0, 3M, and 6M), the 3-phosphoglyceric acid of male participants at 6 months was significantly higher in the HJG group

PLS-DA plot of differential metabolites and their corresponding VIP values for the female participants at 6-months. (a) Score plot of the PLS-DA of the HJG (H, green dots) (n = 21) and control groups (C, red dots) (n = 20). (b)  The VIP score of the PLS-DA  analysis of female participants revealed a significantly greater increase in proline, tartaric acid, alanine, cystathionine, and aspartic acid after HJG  administration for six months, compared with the control group.(Kainuma M,et al Front Pharmacol. 2023)
